Slawek, Grandpa Campbell and I just returned from WALK-AMERICA 2005 (March of Dimes for Premature Babies). Although it was a bitterly cold (and snowing) spring day, we were proud to walk in honor of the thousands of premature babies that are born each year ~ including our precious miracles, Evan and Aidan. We are eternally grateful that we get to share our lives with our precious little angels, sent straight from heaven above.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored us on our walk. We hope that the donations we contributed will go to help other premature babies, just like our little blessings.Comments:Add a comment:

Aidan is consistently sleeping through the night now. Now if only his older brother, Evan, could follow in his foot steps. Maybe when Evan gains about 1-2 more pounds!

Today, I took Evan & Aidan on a 3.5 mile walk. They loved the fresh air! Spring has sprung!

Evan and Aidan LOVE their cereal. Dr. Heaton told me to practice feeding them for 1-2 weeks, as he said they probably will not swallow anything until they get used to having food in their mouth (other than breastmilk). Boy was he wrong. Both boys swallowed with every bite (I really watched for the swallow). Very little dribble out of their mouths ~ and what did dribble, I scooped back up and re-deposited in their mouths. They seemed to like it! If this keeps up, I will be starting vegetables next week!

We tried cereal for the first time! Okay, it didn't go so well. It was a bad day to even try, considering Evan & Aidan both got 4 shots today. They have been extremely fussy tonight. We'll try again tomorrow!

Today was Evan & Aidan's 4 month Pediatric appt.
Evan weighs 11 lbs. 10 oz. (5th percentile)
Aidan weighs 13 lbs. 8 oz (25th percentile)
Evan is in the 5th percentile for length & 5-25th percentile for head circumference.
Aidan is in the 25th percentile for length & 25-50th percentile for head circumference.
The Pediatrician has given us the go-ahead to start with solids. First cereal and then stage 1 baby foods. To be honest, I am quite suprised. I honestly thought that we would be postponing the introduction of solids until the boys are 6 months old, given that they are preemies. Dr. Heaton said that both boys are really catching up with full-term babies their age, so we can go ahead.
Evan will be weened off his Zantac between now and his 6 month old appointment! Finally!!
I am still pumping and the boys will continue to receive 24 calorie breastmilk at least until they are around 7 months old. I plan on stopping pumping at their next Pediatrician appt (6/3/05) and we have enough frozen to last a while after that.
Everything else is looking great. Both boys have hydroceles in their testicles that we are watching. Hopefully they will reabsorb the fluid by their 1st birthdays.Comments:Add a comment:

Today, Aidan grabbed something for the first time ~ his Grandma Campbell's shirt. You could see he was really focusing in on the shirt. He started hitting it, frustrated in a way (or maybe curious), and then he grabbed a whole of it. He has grabbed things many times before (like my hair or my finger or shirt, etc.) ~ but this time you could tell he was actually thinking and processing what he wanted.
Both Evan & Aidan laugh and coo constantly now. They used to do it every now and again, but just in the past few days they have really realized that they have a voice. They screech, scream, yell, laugh, giggle and really carry on now. Especially when we leave the room. It's so adorable!Comments:Add a comment:

Today is a very sad day. Grandma Gorczyk, Grandpa Gorczyk, and Aunt Magda returned to Poland today. Evan and Aidan are already missing them tremendously. They enjoyed being held (A LOT) and walked around the house... and Grandpa Gorczyk sung them to sleep every night. The next few days will be an adjustment for us all. We will miss them.

Evan & Aidan had their 5th and final Synagis injection today (for RSV prevention). Their weights (at 4 months old):
Evan = 11 lbs. 5 oz.
Aidan = 12 lbs. 14.3 oz.
We are impressed at how much weight they have gained despite being more than 2 months premature!!
They have their 4 month Pediatrician appt. on 4/12. Let's see what Dr. Heaton says!Comments:Add a comment:
