Awww, the twins are now called a "fetus" (not an embryo anymore!) And, we will pass the critical stage of development by the end of this week!!
The crown-to-rump length of your baby is about 1.25 to 1.68 inches (between 3.1 and 4.2cm).
He weighs about 0.18 ounces (5g).
The placenta is now producing progesterone which helps to make nutrients for your developing baby.
Your baby has passed the stage when he is most susceptible to damage. By the end of this week, the danger zone for congenital abnormalities has passed.
The plan for your baby's body has been completely laid down by now. Further growth and cell division will build on this plan.
Taste and tooth buds have appeared.
Your baby has recently developed fingers and toes which are now well-formed. Ankles, wrists and the inner ear have formed. Your baby's nose is flat and his eyes are far apart. His eyes, ears, mouth and nose are all recognizable. The tail is disappearing.
Your baby is moving around the amniotic sac, and moving his feet and ankles. You still will not be able to feel these movements but you may be able to see them on an ultrasound.
Blood is circulating through the arteries and the vein of the umbilical cord.
The brain of your baby is developing at a phenomenal rate. About one quarter of a million new neurons are produced every single minute at this stage in your pregnancy.
If your baby is a boy, his testes, though they are not even clearly visible, are already producing testosterone.
Your baby is no longer called an embryo, but rather a fetus.Comments:Add a comment:

9w1d ~ I am doing fine with m/s again today. And today, I rented a heartbeat doppler from babybeat.com. I should be able to pick up both baby's heartbeats on it starting from around 9-11 weeks pregnant (depending on each individual person and size). I should have it by the end of this week! I am excited to give it a try!!!

8w6d ~ Day 2 of horrible morning sickness. After puking all day yesterday, I continued puking all day today. We were in church, I had to run to the bathroom and throw up toast. Later we decided to drive to Metamora, Indiana (a craft village) and after some mild ice cream, I was throwing up in the grass on the side of the road. This is pathetic. I have to get something for the morning sickness. I did eat a popsicle last night, which stayed down. I drove to USA Baby yesterday at 5 pm to buy "Preggie Pops" (they help with morning sickness). They had just closed (at 5 pm)! So, I am trying to suck on peppermint and cinnamon hard candy for now. Yuk, Yuk, Yuk. Oh well, I am trying not to complain too much (even though I have never felt this horrible in my life). I read where women who experience morning sickness have less of a chance of miscarrying than women with no morning sickness. I guess that is the one positive in it all. :o(

8w5d ~ Mark this date down in history, as it is the day the most horrible morning sickness of my life has started. I started throwing up this morning with toast & milk, and later with a granola bar and 7-Up, and even later with animal crackers and 7-Up. Nothing is working for me. I have never been this sick in my entire life.

Today we had ultrasound #2 (our final one with Dr. Scheiber). The Twins are doing just great!!! Both heartbeats are very strong, the placenta has developed, and so has the umbilical cord. Both babies have legs and arms now.
Baby A (on the LEFT in the photo) measures 2.0 cm.
Baby B (on the RIGHT in the photo) measures 2.2 cm.
Dr. Scheiber said both are right on track and look perfect.
I have been released and have made an appt. for July 12 for a Perinatologist (OB/GYN specialist) at Good Samaritan Hospital. They have a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), just in case.
My Due Date is officially January 30, as per the Dr. today, but he clarified that 37 weeks is considered full-term for twins. So that would put me around January 9!!!!
Grow Gorczyk twins, Grow!!! We love you!!Comments:Add a comment:

IT'S TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!
We saw both heartbeats today!!!!
Dr. Scheiber first showed me my ovaries, and how large they are. Then he showed us "Baby A." He tricked us and said, "Here is your baby... see the yolk sac? See it's little heart beating away???" Slawek and I were in awe.
Then Dr. Scheiber said, "Anddddd... since you have been sooo good through the entire procedure, you have a BONUS baby ~ Baby B.... Twins! And here is Baby B's heartbeat."
I sobbed. Slawek was rubbing my shoulder. Then Dr. Scheiber came over and gave me the biggest heartfelt hug. Looking back, I realize how comical it was (I was still on the bed for the ultrasound) ~ but it was such an emotional experience.
I am still on restricted activity. No exercising, no boat riding, basically I am supposed to relax and rest until my ovaries shrink more. They are the size of grapefruits still. And now I have 2 little ones in there. I have multiple grapefruits going on. LOL!
Now we have to wait for ultrasound #2 on 6/24. I hope you grow very big and strong little ones!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Hello baby(ies) Gorczyk ~ Your heart is already beating this week! I can't believe it, you have a heartbeat?! Beat strong for me! And my book "Pregnancy Week By Week" tells me that you also have sprouted little arm buds. Today's growth shows that you are also developing teeny tiny baby fingers, and that you can even move your limbs! Grow baby(ies) Grow!

WOO HOO! NO SPOTTING! Yesterday, Dr. Scheiber switched me from Progesterone suppositories back to PIO injections. I did my first injection (1cc) yesterday morning, and my 2nd one this morning. Plus I used a suppository in the evening (right before bedtime).
I woke up this morning SPOT-FREE!!!! It must have done the trick. I was burning all up day yesterday, and no spotting since the first injection.
I have my 1st ultrasound in 1 week. I hope Dr. Scheiber lets me stay on PIO injections. I don't want to risk a Progesterone level that is too low to sustain a pregnancy.Comments:Add a comment:

Back to Progesterone In Oil (PIO) injections for me. I have continued to spot off and on for almost a week now. It is just a slight pink and sometimes faint red color. We don't know if the spotting is from cervical irritation from the Progesterone suppositories I have been on, or if it is true uterine/pregnancy spotting (or low Progesterone break thru spotting for that matter). But after I called Dr. Scheiber for the 4th time this morning, he agreed to switch me back to PIO injections.
I am relieved with this. I feel much safer doing the injections than the suppositories. We'll see if this makes a difference.
Dr. Scheiber said, "see you next week for your ultrasound".
Is it really just 1 week away? No way, and I will get to see our baby(ies)? I am so excited. So is Slawek. He keeps telling everyone we are pregnant with "what looks like twins." I asked him to quit saying that. It is more than likely just 1 baby. I am prefectly happy with 1 healthy, perfect little Gorczyk. If it is 2, then God surely blessed us!!Comments:Add a comment:

No more spotting since very early yesterday morning. I spoke with Jackie at Dr. Scheiber's office today. She informed me that the light spotting is totally normal, especially after an IVF procedure. I asked if I can go back on PIO injections, which are 50 mg. per day ~ and she informed me that I am currently on 200 mg. per day with the Progesterone suppositories. They do not want me to switch. 200 mg. is where they want me to be.
For now, I have to hold tight until our first ultrasound in 9 days (6/10). Hurry 6/10!!!!!
I bought another home pregnant test last night and took it this morning ~ just to be sure. It was VERY positive. My line is now much darker than the control line. So, all is well.
Thank God.Comments:Add a comment:
